Break the Ice
Though not one of my favorites of hers, this will be a winner for anyone who enjoys a festive Christmas story with a forced proximity, opposites attract pairing. Brit Phoebe and American Josh are on a quest to deliver a VERY adorable puppy named Steve to Phoebe's nieces in time for Christmas, but heavy snow turns the four hour trip into an entirely different adventure altogether!
Expect witty banter, a slow-building relationship as they find their footing with one another and genuine moments of heartbreak and healing as they help one another through the things that are weighing on them. If you enjoy a cute puppy in your stories, Steve will surely win your heart! It's a slow burn, mild spice Christmas adventure that's sure to put a smile on your face.
A couple things didn't work as well for me, though. In the first part of the story Phoebe was a little bit much for me personality-wise, and it took me a moment to grow to enjoy her. Thankfully her character arc changed that and I grew to like her. My second issue is that if you're going to write an American character, then their POV should use American English in how it's written, since that’s what they would know. There were many instances of Josh's character using British English terms or spelling, and I'm not talking about the times when it was being done intentionally to mimic Phoebe. It's a minor thing that most will probably see past, but it pulled me out of the story enough to mention.
All-in-all a sweet festive read for the season!
